GAA Training

Sixth class have been enjoying GAA training every Tuesday afternoon with Cormac. We have learned plenty of new skills and played lots of great games to practice. One of our favourites was this Rock, Paper, Scissors chasing game.

Avondale Cross Country Relay

On the 3rd of October we went to Avondale. Four girls and four boys from 3rd to 6th class took part in this event. 5th class girls Cameron, Shauna, Alannah and Asia got bronze medals.  It was great to see new faces from our school getting a chance to run for the first time. It was around 1 hour 10mins journey on the bus. Once we got there we warmed up and the relay races started. Every race we ran we did well. Everyone tried their best and conquered the hill. The teachers that came were Ms.Staunton and Ms.Higgins. We all had a great day and all the best next year. Everyone did very good, tried their best and never stopped running. We all had a great day.

Valleymount Cross Country

At quarter to ten we got on the bus heading for Valleymount .We were all ecstatic to run our races. The bus was loud and cheerful. We finally arrived at Valleymount and we walked down to the big grassy track . Everybody was very disappointed because the big famous red tractor wasn’t there. We all warmed up for our races. Finally, it was race time . We all tried our best and did a wonderful job !! We left with lots of medals . It was a great day and we all enjoyed every single second of it !!!

Active School Week No. 1 - October

This year we are changing things a bit. Instead of only 1 active school week per year we are going to have 5!! One or two per term, with active Homework every night during this week.
Ritchie and Sinéad from the Active School Flag Committee have written about our first one.

Last week was active school week. The school did 'Drop Everything And Dance' and skipping.
'Drop Everything And Dance' was really fun. Every day at different times music would come on and everyone would start dancing. That was fun. The school also did skipping on little break. No balls were allowed out on yard, only skipping ropes were.
By Sinéad (4th class)

Last week we ran a K a day. 3rd and 4th class went first then 5th went and then 6th went. We ran down to the black and yellow pole. The parents were on the road to keep an eye on us. When everyone was back 1st and 2nd went and when  1st and 2nd were back everyone went inside to do some  work.

Outdoor and Adventure Month - June

For the first time ever this year we had Orienteering on Sports day.

The clues were very well laid out and there was a lot of running.  I really enjoyed the team work.
By Patrick (5th)
It was great to have orienteering this year.  The groups were a mix of 3rd, 4th, 5th 6th boys and girls.. I found it was great fun because the map with the whole school on it could be confusing, but our team worked together to get all the letters.  No one was left behind.

This year we had different activities every day and kept our km run for Friday

Well done to all, especially to our parents who helped out with traffic management.

Active Travel - Cycle Safety

Many thanks to our local community guard Mick O'Rourke who visited us last week to check the bicycles and talk to the children about cycle safety and teach the children some skills.
Thankfully it was a beautiful sunny day and nearly every student cycled to school.

3rd to 6th took part in an usual race where the aim was to go as SLOWLY as possible, where the children learned the importance of balance and bike handling.
The children were reminded to wear their helmets and it's great to see so many cycling to school in the good weather.

Hurling After School

Ms Shone and Ms Staunton have resumed after school hurling on Mondays this month.
Well done to all who take part.

Drop Everything And Dance!

During Active School Week we did Drop Everything and Dance (DEAD).  This is where Charlotte would play a song and we would stop what we are doing and dance.  It is a fun part of the day.  Charlotte wasn't in at the start of the week so she put on 2 songs on Thursday and Friday.  Not everybody dances but most people do.  The songs Charlotte played were 'Shut up and Dance', 'Wagon Wheel', 'I've got a feeling', and 'Happy'.  Everybody really enjoyed it and looked forward to it every day.  We hope we can do it again next year.

Active School Week - active homework

Last week was Active School Week.  We all had great fun.  We got Active Homework every night.  We had to add up all our minutes to make 1 hour a day.  The thing I liked was that we didn't get that much written homework but more active homework.  I was the best week ever.

Healthy eating

Healthy Eating

This week for active schools week we are doing a healthy eating programme. Every day the (ASC) active schools committee check the other students lunchboxes, to see if they have healthy lunches . One piece of fruit is worth two points, two pieces of fruit is worth five points, three pieces of fruit is worth ten points and any vegetables is worth twenty points .The class that wins gets extra playtime out on yard, not just to make their eating healthy, but to make them exercise too! There has been a big healthy improvement and all the students in St. Brigid’s N.S will all be looking like human shaped carrots by the end of the week!

The blue team and the white team!
Both teams did very well and all the boys and girls played their best.
Some of them had never played football before!
Some of them were great at showing off their skills!
A big thank you to Liam Creighton for managing and coaching too!
